Moving House
“There is
nothing more admirable than when two people who see eye to eye keep house as
man and wife, confounding their enemies and delighting their friends.”
― Homer, The Odyssey
Moving
house is a life event that evokes mixed
reactions. It’s either shrouded in sadness and reluctance or it comes as a
swath of excitement for the prospect of new beginnings. It is the latter
category that I am in and best explains any erratic nature of the blog over the
past few weeks.
After
months of self-contained excitement in superstitious attempt to prevent any bad
luck I can now finally tell you the big secret: we’re moving house. As you read
(if you are in fact reading on Friday 26th June 2015) we will be
lugging our lives across towns and wading through piles of boxes.
It’s
been a long time coming; our little townhouse is no longer big enough to
contain us and our insistence on adventure. Time has come to leave the nursery
and we’re heading to Neverland. Or at least that’s how it feels.
People,
this house is our “grown up house”. It is the house to build in, to grow, love,
laugh and learn in. It is a house with a dining room. That’s right, no more TV
dinners for us (or at least when we get a dining table). It is a house that
promises garden parties and friends for dinner. It’s a house for Explorer puppy
to grow in.
I
have been fervently planning a proper decoration strategy for this house. We’re
already taking about extending and improving. The words “The bathroom needs
updating” have passed my lips AND IT’S SO EXCITING.
I am sad to be leaving our little townhouse, sandwich
between two sets of beautiful neighbours and sitting on a cat saturated road. I
have loved this house and in it we have created a life for ourselves (nearly
didn’t add the “for ourselves” then realised the insinuation…….) in this house.
It is a house that given us so much, and I will always be grateful to its
sturdy walls standing strong through the creation of all of our memories. The
forgotten backdrop it will never be. It will always be my favourite for just
being the first.
But it’s time to move on and find a new adventure. Its someone
else’s turn to enjoy our little townhouse.
It’s time to get a bigger kitchen.
Hope the move went well, when we bought out first house, the move was the worst part, but the stuff that followed was truly awesome. Good luck in your new home!
ReplyDeleteThanks Emma! It went well, very smooth! We're pretty much settled in now and loving it already :-)
